For every cosmetic item, you must provide mandatory information about the item and its safe use. This information must be available to customers on the item itself, on the outer packaging, and on the item’s sales page for online sales. If it isn’t possible to label the packaging, you can choose to add a card with information.
The following mandatory information must be available to the buyer (and authorities) on the item, on the packaging, and on the online sales page:
- name and cosmetic function of the item (e.g., body lotion, baby shampoo, etc.)
- list of ingredients (in INCI nomenclature)
- manufacturer name
- manufacturer address
- country of origin
- contents (in g or ml)
- nominal content (in pieces)
- shelf life of closed product
- shelf life after opening (in months)
- product language
- instructions and warnings for safe use (e.g., for hair dyes)
In addition, the batch/lot code for traceability must be present on the packaging (but doesn’t have to be available online).
Make sure that all other information and instructions for use can be read in the language(s) of the region where you’re putting the item on the market. That means in Dutch for items on the Dutch market and in Dutch and French for items on the Belgian market. You can find more information con the Cosmetics Europe website.
