Our customers are looking for products with sustainability attributes, and it is our responsibility to provide them with accurate information. Products with attributes that demonstrate a proven sustainability benefit compared to similar products are made clearly recognizable and easy to find in our store. Therefore, it is very important to label your products correctly!
Why label products with sustainability attributes?
- Choice: Sustainability plays a role in the purchasing decisions of most of our customers. Sustainability labels help customers compare products and make choices that align with their preferences.
- Discoverability: Products with a sustainability label are easier to find through dedicated filters and category pages featuring products with sustainability attributes.
- Visibility: The sustainability label is displayed in search results and on product detail pages. This helps products with a label stand out from similar products.
- Reliability: Labels are assigned based on criteria established in collaboration with Milieu Centraal. This adds credibility to the sustainability information displayed with the product.
- Cost: There are no additional costs associated with sustainability labels.

Bol currently recognizes labels and certifications within the following sustainability themes:
- Helps save energy
- Helps save drinking water
- Helps conserve resources
- Helps reduce waste
- Raw material sourcing and production process monitoring
- Uses safer materials or ingredients
- Labour and/or animal welfare monitoring
- B Corp
- Supports charitable causes
- Helps promote biodiversity

When does a product qualify for a sustainability label?
Products are assigned a sustainability attribute when they meet at least one of the following criteria:
- The product has an approved certification label.
- The product has an approved sustainability attribute (for example, a reusable diaper).
On the page for each sustainability theme, you can find which certifications and attributes within that theme are eligible for a sustainability label.
