We understand that language can be a barrier when selling in French-speaking Belgium. That is why we automatically translate eligible products from Dutch into French. For the best quality, we recommend providing your own French-language product information. On this page, you can learn how to do that. You can add or modify French-language product information in your seller account by following these steps:

1. Go to 'My Products' in your seller account

Select the products you want to modify by checking the boxes.

2. Click 'Edit Product Information'

3. Modify French Product Information

In the top-right corner, click the French flag to add or edit French-language product information.

4. Want to modify the Dutch product information as well?

Click the Dutch flag. You can switch between languages without saving in between.

5. Finished? click 'Save Changes'.

What happens next? Just wait a little!

Your additions or changes will be processed within 8 hours and may then become visible on bol.

In some cases, your changes may not be visible after 8 hours. This may happen because existing or other newly submitted product information from other partners or brands has been given priority.

You can always check the ‘Feedback’ section in your seller account for feedback on your changes.

You may also notice that French-language product information is already available, even if you did not add it yourself. This is because we automatically translate Dutch-language product information when it is available.

Important: French Product Information via Your Seller Account

If you want to add or modify French-language product information through your seller account, make sure you do so using the seller account with which you offer products in Belgium.

For example, if you have a separate account for the Netherlands and a separate account for Belgium, only the Belgian account will have the option to add or modify French-language product information through the ‘Products in Bulk’ feature.

This does not apply to seller accounts that offer products in Belgium through Logistics via bol.

Adding French Product Information via ‘Products in Bulk’

You can also add French-language product information in bulk through your seller account.

1. Upload your Excel file as usual

Complete all fields in Dutch, including the title and, if applicable, the description. This is required to create the product.

2. Complete all steps in Dutch

Match your Excel information to the correct columns and place the products in the appropriate Dutch-language product group.

3. Open French Information via the Flag

When you reach the ‘Complete Your Product Information’ screen, click the French flag in the top-right corner. This will take you to the page where you can add or modify French-language product information.

4. Want to modify the Dutch product information as well?

Click the Dutch flag. You can switch between languages without saving in between.

5. Finished? Click 'Save Changes'

French Product Information and Language Attributes

Product attributes with predefined value lists are automatically translated from Dutch to French.

Free-text fields, such as titles and descriptions, are translated only once and can then be adjusted manually.

Not all French product attributes are visible, as some are automatically copied from the Dutch product information.

For certain products, language attributes are mandatory, such as the language of the product, the manual, and the packaging. Based on these attributes, it is determined whether a product is eligible to appear on the French-language website and app.

Since August 1, 2020, these language attributes have been mandatory for relevant product types.

  • Is a language attribute not relevant? Then it does not need to be completed, and the product information will be translated automatically.
  • Is a language attribute relevant? Then enter the correct language for the product, the manual, and/or the packaging.
  • Products with language values such as French, English, Universal, No Language, or Not Applicable are automatically translated and displayed in the French-language environment.
  • Products with other language values are not shown to French-speaking customers, with the exception of Dutch-language books and CDs.

Language attributes can be completed per product or in bulk through the seller account.

To make products available online, all mandatory attributes, including any required language attributes, must be completed.

Manuals Are Mandatory

To sell products in Belgium, Belgian legislation requires you to provide a manual in both Dutch and French.

This does not mean that the manuals must always be made available online. However, they must be physically included with the shipment.

The exception to this rule is smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. For these products, the manuals must also be made available online in both Dutch and French.

When uploading manuals online, ensure that both language versions (Dutch and French) are included in the same file.
